Partnership for Independence
The working poor, individuals of low-income and the unemployed can sometimes receive financial support to pay tuition for college or vocational school, yet sadly, they lack the basic resources that would allow them to return to school to learn skills enabling them to make a better living.
The Partnership for Independence program is not a bandage. It's a comprehensive program providing long term solutions. Each grant is tailored to the recipients' needs. The program encompasses all the areas of daily living (e.g. rent, utilities, daycare, food, medical, insurance, etc.) as well as educational support (e.g. tuition, equipment, books, tutors, etc.). Participants partner with the League by taking responsibility for community service hours in the League's many community service activities. In this way, "partners" can give a helping hand to the community that has given to them.
